The Rise of Bella, the Magic Salamander

From an article written by Salamander restaurant owner Paul Cormier

The North Grenville Arts Guild picked up on an old tradition of sculpting a giant snow Salamander. Where? Well, where else but on the patio at Salamanders of Kemptville. Please meet Bella, the Magic Salamander, re-created once again by a team of stalwart artists from the Guild.

The Guild has been pursuing the elusive Bella for some years with not much luck, due to the lack of good snow. This year, Ma Nature decided to help out: this, she did with pizzazz, dumping a huge pile of fluffy white stuff on the Salamanders patio. The team, consisting of {NGAG members} Barbara Buchanan and Mariya Pritchard, [along with help from Barb’s husband Bob Buchanan and restaurant owner Paul Cormier,] laboured mightily in -15C weather with brilliant sunshine; because the area is well sheltered from the wind, working on the Salamanders patio turned out to be very comfortable and enjoyable. The artists used a wide assortment of shovels and hand tools and Mariya decorated Bella with a pair of spray bottles filled with food colouring. The structure was then hardened with a light spray of water from a conveniently placed hose.

The good folks at Salamanders are very proud to be partners and supporters of the North Grenville Arts Guild and their member artists. Our municipality and surrounding region are blessed with very talented people who are willing to share their art. That’s why you will see their works prominently displayed on the walls and display cases at Salamanders.
